Attending college as a student of color in a predominately White community can feel isolating and stressful. You may experience racial prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination on top of the other stressors of college life. Students of color are invited to use counseling as a system of support for race-related stress as well as other mental health needs.
Counseling Services also welcomes students who are undocumented, DACAmented, or who come from a mixed-status family. Your immigration status is kept strictly confidential. Concerns about immigration or citizenship are particularly stressful in recent times, and counseling can be a safe place to express yourself and build emotional resilience.
Counseling Services is committed to providing culturally appropriate counseling. We celebrate the diversity represented on campus and appreciate how different backgrounds can call for different needs in counseling. To maximize the benefits of counseling, culture is often discussed along with your personal characteristics.
If you are concerned or unsure about your mental health or wellness, please schedule an appointment with Counseling Services by calling 309.341.7492.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, come to Counseling Services during business hours. After business hours call Campus Safety (309.341.7979) or call 9-1-1. Click Crisis Sessions for more information.
