College life is full of change and transition. Stress from that adjustment can be magnified when that college is in a different country than our own. Counseling Services is fully available to international students for any concerns related to adjustment, mental health, culture shock, and more.
Mental health is treated very differently across the globe, and there are many different ways we define a need for therapy. If you are questioning your need for counseling, please consider scheduling an initial appointment to help clarify that need. See the links below for more information about mental health.
We understand that receiving counseling in a culture different from your own can create confusion. As counselors, we strive to educate ourselves about other cultures so we can appropriately assist you, our international students. We also encourage you to consider how culture may impact your therapy and to speak with your counselor about any questions or concerns.
If you are concerned or unsure about your adjustment or mental health, please schedule an appointment with Counseling Services by calling 309.341.7492.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, come to Counseling Services during business hours. After business hours call Campus Safety (309.341.7979) or call 9-1-1. Click Crisis Sessions for more information.
