Inclusivity is important to us in Counseling Services. We wish to provide a safe place on campus to explore, understand, and express your sexual and gender identity. Counseling can help you process initial questions, support you in your exploration, and help you manage the resulting changes in your interpersonal life.
Going through an identity transition can be an affirming process, but it also comes with difficulties. As you begin to alter your self-expression, your relationships with others and with yourself may alter as well. Unfortunately, you may experience discrimination or harassment. It is normal to experience symptoms of depression or anxiety throughout this process, and sharing these concerns with a counselor can help you lessen their impact on your mental health.
If you believe you would benefit from support as you work to understand how sexuality or gender relates to you, please contact Counseling Services at 309.341.7492 to schedule an appointment with a counselor.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, come to Counseling Services during business hours. After business hours call Campus Safety (309.341.7979) or call 9-1-1. Click Crisis Sessions for more information.
