Knox College Students in 2013 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics

40 students on seven teams brave freezing water at Lake Storey

Polar Plunge Team from Knox College

Eight teams of Knox College students braved the freezing water at Lake Storey in Galesburg on Sunday to help the Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge raise more $52,000 to support Special Olympics. Knox students, coordinated through the Mark and Jeanette Kleine Center for Community Service, also helped with registration and equipment.

Polar Plunge teams from Knox included more than 40 students in campus organizations, representing the largest single organizational involvement in the event:

The top individual team, Shanny's Troops, raised $4,223, with employees of FM95 Radio second and Monmouth Roseville High School Titans third in the total amount raised.

Knox College students assisted with registration and set-up, and join teams from other colleges and local organizations in the 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge at Lake Storey in Galesburg.

Each participant raised at least $75 in donations. All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Illinois. The event at Lake Storey was one of 20 held this winter around Illinois.
