Class of 2013 Looks Ahead

Here's 'what's next' for some of Knox's newest alumni

Knox College Commencement 2013

Knox College's newest graduates, the members of the Class of 2013, have picked up their diplomas, and now they are planning and pursuing the next chapter in their lives.

At the rehearsal for their Commencement exercises, several graduating seniors took the time to answer the question, "What's next?"

Emalie Jacobs, of St. Louis, Missouri, a creative writing and Africana Studies double-major:

"I am in Teach for America and will be teaching first grade (in the fall) at Confluence Academy in St. Louis. This summer, I am teaching summer school in Phoenix, Arizona."

Josh Hosmer-Quint, of Columbia, Missouri, a psychology major:

"Next year, I am working for KnoxCorps with the Galesburg Convention and Visitors Bureau and for the psychology department here. Later, I plan to pursue a master's of social work and go into clinical social work."

Charlotte Young, of Millstadt, Illinois, a political science major:

"I got a job at a law firm, Haynes and Boone, in Dallas, Texas, where I will be audit response clerk."

Minah Rathore, of Islamabad, Pakistan, an international relations major:

"I'm going to (the University of Massachusetts) Amherst on a full ride for a master's in public policy and administration. (Later,) I definitely want to go back to Pakistan and work for the government on reforming policies, especially with regard to women's and minority rights."

Berhane Cole, of Chicago, Illinois, a studio art major:

"I'm going to New Orleans, Louisiana, and doing an internship at the New Orleans Museum of Art."

Evan Lewitus, of Annapolis, Maryland, who self-designed a major in food studies:

"I will keep working at Baked (a Galesburg restaurant) and volunteer at farms, the Knox Prairie Community Kitchen, and Growing Together. I want to grow food and cook food for a while."

Tiesa McElroy, of Seattle, Washington, an economics major:

"I'm going to be working with Boeing (in Seattle) on the 787 Dreamliner. I will be on the estimating and pricing team."

Josh Gunter, of Kansas City, Missouri, an art history major:

"I finished (with degree requirements) in March and moved to New York City. I work for a public relations firm, Brunswick Group, as account researcher."

Grant Deam, of Bourbonnais, Illinois, a creative writing and Spanish double-major:

"I'm doing Teach for America, teaching high school Spanish to ninth- and 10th-graders at Catalyst-Maria Charter High School on the south side of Chicago."

Cheng Cheng, of Jiangyou, China, a biology and chemistry double-major:

"I'm going to Washington University in St. Louis (for graduate studies in) biomedical science. I want to work in the industry and then go into academia."
