We are excited that you are interested in studying at Knox College as an exchange student* from a partner university. Exchange students are international students who come to Knox College from one of our reciprocal exchange partner universities: European University of Flensburg, University of Franche-Comté, Akita International University, Waseda University, and Kansai Gaidai University.

As an International Exchange student, you may study at Knox for up to one academic year. You will take courses at Knox alongside American and international students.

Prior to applying to Knox College, be sure to discuss the steps for being nominated as an exchange student with your university's study abroad coordinator.

*If you are an international student wishing to earn a degree from Knox College, you will apply as an international first-year applicant.

Apply as an International Exchange Student

Complete the Knox College International Exchange Application. There is no application fee. You'll need to obtain a copy of your transcript from your home university and provide that document in your application.

If English is not your first language, you are required to show proof of English proficiency. You can do this by providing a letter from your home university attesting to your English proficiency in your application. Alternatively, you may have your score from the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (International English Language Testing System), or Duolingo English Test (DET) sent directly to Knox College. The minimum acceptable score is 80 on the Internet-based exam on TOEFL, 6.5 on IELTS, or 110 on DET.

Obtain your Student Visa

Students typically come to Knox on an F-1 student visa. Once you have been officially admitted, you will need to submit the I-20 request form. You'll also upload a copy of your passport and submit your financial certification documents through this form. Once you receive your I-20, you can proceed with applying for your student visa at your local U.S. embassy or consulate. Learn more about Your I-20 and F-1 Student Visa .
