M.E.Ch.A.

M.E.Ch.A (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlan) was originally a branch of the national organization. However, in an effort to be more inclusive we have broken away and rebranded to Movimiento Estudiantil de Change & Action with some of the same principles.

Mission Statement

The main focus of M.E.Ch.A de Knox is to promote culture, history, higher education, and political consciousness within the Chicanx/Latinx community through student activism. We maintain an intersectional mindset and establish solidarity with other underrepresented groups on a local and national level. We strive to maintain a safe space of Hermanidad for all Chicanx/Latinx students and allies by hosting events that focus on, but are not limited to, the struggles that affect self-identifying Chicanx/Latinx students. We welcome anyone to our events and meetings who are interested in learning more about our movements and/or becoming an active member of our chapter.

Events

Some of our main events in Fall term include our Dia de Los Muertos celebration, where we set up an ofrenda and share traditional snacks and stories. During Winter term we are involved in I-Fair, usually participating in the cultural showcase, booth fair, and food fair. Spring term the new executive team gets the opportunity to shine by hosting Chicanx week, a weeklong event of different activities.

Our meetings are open to all students and we meet every Tuesday from 6-7 pm at Casa Latina! (By the soccer field)
