Major in History and Minor in French
Meridian Lattig '25 has deeply immersed himself in Knox’s vibrant music culture. As a member of the Knox College Choir, Knox Chamber Singers, and two student-led pop bands, Lattig enjoys exploring and performing music while cherishing the connections he's built through his musical journey.
Coming to Knox, Lattig originally wanted to major in music and teach as a career. After taking several history classes with Assistant Professor of History Jessa Dahl, he decided to major in history. Likewise, Lattig took several French classes to prepare for the 2023 Knox College Choir tour in Southern France and fell in love with the language, thus deciding to add it as a minor.
Lattig recently combined his interests in music and history to conduct research through the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, designed to prepare underrepresented undergraduate scholars for graduate school. Lattig explored a field of research called persona studies by researching how Foo Fighters lead singer Dave Grohl’s gender presentation has shifted throughout his music career. “This is one of the coolest things. I've enjoyed digging in a little bit more because it's not something I've ever been familiar with,” Lattig said.
Lattig is also utilizing the McNair program as he prepares to apply to history and gender and women's studies library sciences graduate school programs across the country. “I am lucky to be a part of the program,” he added. “They have helped scaffold my workload, and keep things in check.”
Among his highlights as a student, Lattig was named Knox College Student Marshal during the Knox College 2024 Commencement Ceremony. He was responsible for organizing and leading the imminent graduates as they prepared to walk across the stage and receive their degrees. “It was an honor to serve as the Marshal,” he said. “A lot of my friends graduated this spring and it was a unique, special experience that connected me to them.”
He was also elected as the Senior Class President for the 2025 graduating class.
With only two classes remaining to complete his major and minor requirements, Lattig is enjoying the time he has left at Knox with fun classes and extracurriculars that pique his interest. This includes Knox's Repertory Theatre Term (Rep Term), a Winter Term immersive course, as well as the live-action role play (LARP) club, where he serves as the public relations chair. He enjoys bringing together a community of people with shared interests and exploring his creative side. “It’s this all-encompassing collaborative art form,” he said. “It's super nerdy because you're out there just fighting people with foam swords. On the outside, it kind of looks a little ridiculous, but it is so much fun, and Knox is a pretty open-minded place.”
