Major in Economics, Minor in Japanese

Nade received a scholarship from the Sojitz Foundation that will cover the cost of his business MBA at the International University of Japan.

Nade Kang, business student at International University of Japan, at his Knox College graduation.

Why did you apply to the International University of Japan (IUJ) MBA Program?

I was looking for a professional business education, and I am interested in Japanese language and culture. The MBA program at IUJ meets both those goals. It's culturally diverse and intellectually challenging. Students come from 41 countries, and IUJ has alumni working in 114 countries all over the world for companies like Goldman Sachs, Fuji Xerox, GE Japan, Mizuho Corporate Bank, and Nomura Securities. IUJ is truly the school in Japan where the world gathers.

I would like to work in Japan because of the sense of responsibility and the pursuit of perfection. These are the qualities of Japanese culture that I appreciate the most. I also hope to understand Japan from my perspective as a native Chinese. I hope that through my study and working experiences in both the United States and Japan, I could convey my understanding of the two cultures to my peers in China, so that I can contribute to Sino-Japan-U.S. business and economic development, and also to the mutual understanding of the three nations.

Were there any independent study or research projects that were especially influential or useful while you were at Knox?

I did an independent study with Professor Cohn in economics, called the "Chinese Housing Market Bubbles." I read several books about the subprime mortgage crisis in 2008 and I collected data about the Chinese housing market for reports. I also did three independent studies with Professor Matsuda in Business Japanese. I believe this is really important towards my graduate study in Japan!

Did you have any internships during your time at Knox?

I interned with Bank of East Asia (China) in the Corporate Banking Department at the Xiamen Branch, Xiamen, China during the summer of 2013.
