Secondary Education and History Double Major

As a history and secondary education double major, Clark hopes to guide students in the classroom and on the field as a coach.

Born into a family of coaches, Jason Clark ’24 is eager to be a part of the family tradition. His experience playing sports started early—playing baseball in preschool and watching football games as he grew up. Clark now plays both sports for the Knox College Prairie Fire.

“I loved the fact that I could play both sports,” he said. “Knox was the only school that gave me that opportunity.”

Unfortunately, Clark’s sports career was halted in his second year at Knox when he suffered from a stroke as a result of  Multi-system Inflammatory Syndrome caused by COVID-19. However, through hard work and determination, Clark recovered with the support of his coaches and the athletic trainers who encouraged him to get back on his feet. “That was one of many examples of someone at Knox helping me to get back to where I needed to be after something so devastating,” Clark said.

Clark feels especially grateful to his brother, Sports Information Director and Associate Head Baseball Coach, Recruiting Coordinator James Clark ’09. “My brother inspires me. He is one of the big factors that drove me to come to Knox,” he said.

As a history and secondary education double major, he hopes to guide students in the classroom and on the field as a coach. Clark credits his professors and the relationships he built with them to help support his college journey. Along his journey as a student-athlete, he explains that he grew to understand the importance of finding the right balance between school and sports. After taking multiple classes with Assistant Professor and Professor of Practice in Business and Management Jeffrey Gomer, Clark explained how this relationship not only helped him academically but also in his personal life while planning for graduation. He plans to continue playing sports in graduate school where he will pursue a degree in sports management.

“Knox is a one-of-a-kind place that has helped shape my life for the better because of the people that I have met,” Clark said. “The relationships that I have created at this special place are relationships that will last a lifetime. I am extremely blessed and grateful to have spent the past 5 years of my life at Knox College.”
