Bicycles are a welcome addition to the Knox College campus, from our short and long-term bike share to encouraging the community to use this healthy alternative transportation source. Learn more about the role bikes play at Knox.

Knox College Bike Shop

Located in the basement of the Old Jail, the Knox College Bike Shop was created as an on-campus bike repair shop to maintain the Bike Share fleet and to provide guidance and resources on bike repair, maintenance, and safety for the Knox community. Collaborating with the Bike Club, the Bike Shop will host workshops on topics such as bike repair, safety, and specialty classes on bike building. Check their Facebook page for updates and events.

The Bike Shop is staffed by student mechanics and is open several days during the week. Mechanic services are available to anyone in the Knox community for the cost of parts.

Bike Shop hours

Our bike mechanic host summer hours at the Bike Shop on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 4:00 - 5:00 pm.

Contact bikeshop-user@knox.edu  to make an appointment.

Check our Facebook page for closures and/or updates.

Self-service bike stand and pump

There is a self fix-it stand and pump located on the south side of Seymour Union, adjacent to the dining services office. The fix-it stand has a few tools and a link to online tutorials. The pump is for putting air in your tires. These are available at all times.

Bike Share

Knox College Bike Share bikes can be rented for an entire term and are checked out during regular Bike Shop hours. There are almost 100 bicycles in the fleet and are rented as first-come-first-serve. This is a free service, though there is a charge if items are not returned.

Bike Parking, Storage, and Registration

There are bicycle racks outside most buildings and residents are able to store their bicycles inside bedroom areas as well. Covered parking is available under the stairs leading to the Fitness Center doors. Secure, indoor bike storage can be arranged for break periods and Winter term by contacting the Office of Campus Life.

For policies related to bike parking and registration, please see Campus Safety's bicycle policy page.
