Knox College provides primary health care services to all enrolled, degree-seeking students as part of their health services fee. There is no additional cost to see our health services staff for the following:

  • Sick visits including respiratory or other infections, flu-like symptoms, abdominal problems, or headaches;
  • Minor emergency treatment including burns, minor lacerations, sprains, or strains;
  • Reproductive care such as birth control and urine pregnancy testing;
  • Allergy shots (consent for administration must be signed by the allergist or prescriber);
  • Some laboratory services including rapid strep, mononucleosis, influenza, urinalysis, and urine pregnancy test;
  • Free condoms

Health Services charges a fee for the following services:

  • Athletic, pre-employment, study abroad, and student teaching physicals
  • Tuberculosis skin tests
  • Tetanus vaccines
  • Pneumatic walking boots

Health Services can order off-campus testing as needed at one of the local hospitals. The cost of off-campus lab testing, x-rays, other tests and prescriptions are the student's responsibility.

For non-emergency care after hours, students can visit Graham Medical Group or the local Prompt Care. Please note that the Health Services fee does not cover after hours office visits.

The College provides taxi vouchers to off-campus clinics and pharmacies in Galesburg. Vouchers are available through Health Services, Campus Safety, and Campus Life.

Emergency Services

Call 9-1-1 for an ambulance to take you to the emergency room at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

Please note that the Health Services fee does not cover ambulance service or emergency room care.

Health Services offers free sharps containers for needle disposal. All individuals using injectable medications are required to dispose of them properly to prevent accidental needle sticks and injury to others. On request, sharps containers are available at the Health Services office. Sharps containers should be returned to the Health Center for proper disposal, and a new one dispensed as needed. Do not place needles or sharps containers in the trash.

In addition, sharps containers can be found in the following locations on campus:

  • Seymour Union- Gender-neutral restroom
  • Post Lobby- restroom
  • Williston basement restroom
  • Conger-Neal basement restroom
