Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Requirements
Knox College has the responsibility to provide its students, employees, and the public with a safe environment. In addition, the College's participation in Federal Financial Aid programs requires the adoption and implementation of a drug prevention program as prescribed by federal regulations.
Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug Free Schools and Campuses Act of 1989, the College conducts a distribution on an annual basis to each employee and to each student a complete description of the policies and related programs aimed at preventing the use of illicit drugs and the abuse of alcohol.
In brief, Knox College prohibits the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs or alcohol by students and employees on College property or as any part of its activities. Included in the annual distribution of policies and programs in the Knox Student Handbook are descriptions of: 1) the legal sanctions under local, state and federal law for the unlawful possession or distribution of illicit drugs and abuse of alcohol; 2) the health risks associated with the use of illicit drugs and the abuse of alcohol; 3) the drug and alcohol counseling, treatment and rehabilitation programs available to employees and students; and 4) the sanctions, which may include dismissal or termination of employment, for violations of the standards of conduct described in the policies.
