💸 The Money Page 💸

Scholarship and creative work are essential aspects of our jobs as members of the Knox College faculty. The following lays out the college's expectations for this part of your job as well as strategies for getting the work done and finding funds to carry it out.

Expectations of Knox College

Your program chair and fellow faculty members are your best source of information about what Knox expects from you as a professional in your field. This is the key: expectations on your research are a function of your discipline. Some disciplines expect a couple of publications annually. Others, on the other hand, are fine with one every couple of years. This is why it is very important to chat with your chair.

📙 Although it is out of date, this old faculty guide can provide some useful direction as well. It is an interesting read, if I do say so myself.

📔 Trading currency for interest, the current faculty handbook can be found here.

Some sources of funding 💴

And now that you have read the above, here is what you came for, internal Knox College grants.

🚀 Conference Travel Allocation

Going to a conference? Apply for a CTA. The link goes to a Qualtrics form. If you are anything like me, you want to know what information you will need before starting to complete an online form. This is a link to the pdf.

🎨 Scholarly / Creative Work Grant

Looking for funds to help with a professional project? Apply for a grant to help with your professional project. Again, this link goes to a Qualtrics form. Here is a link to a pdf that gives the questions so that you can plan for what will be asked.

🤝 External Grants and Assistance

The grants office assists Knox faculty and staff in developing partnerships with foundations, corporations, and government agencies to pursue external funding for research and campus-wide initiatives. We can help identify funding opportunities, aid in proposal development and submission, and help steward funded grants.

⛩ī¸ Cultural Events Committee

The CEC is charged with developing plans for programs connected with endowed lectureships and other public events, as well as assisting academic programs, student organizations, and other offices of the College to arrange other events that advance the educational goals of the College.

The Usual Procedure to Evaluate Funding Requests

After you submit the form, the ADFA will download the information and look over the request. If pieces are missing or if important information is unclear, he will contact you to fix this. When the submission looks acceptable, the ADFA will bring it to the next regulary-scheduled meeting of the Faculty Resources Committee.

There, the committee and the ADFA will evaluate the request in light of competing requests. That recommendation will be taken to the Dean of the College, who will make the final decision. Shortly thereafter, the ADFA will email you the results of the discussion. If the request is successful, the ADFA will do a happy dance. đŸ•ē If not, then he will explain why.

🙋 Reimbursement Requirements

This page provides important information on how to get reimbursement for your work. To ensure that you are properly reimbursed, it is important to follow these guidelines.
