An award-winning songwriter, performer and Knox College graduate returns to Galesburg for two performances this week. Sylvie Davidson, who graduated from Knox in 2006, and Trevor Wheatman will perform from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, May 29 at The Burg's Bar and Grill, 58 S. Cherry St., Galesburg, and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 30 at the Carl Sandburg Birthplace, 313 E. 3rd St.
Admission is free; donations will be accepted.
The Friday night show will also feature music by the Prairie Fireflies, a folk music group made up of Knox College faculty and students.
Davidson and Wheatman, who live in Nashville, most recently performed in the Off-Broadway production of Lonesome Traveler, a musical journey through American folk music that has been nominated for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical from the 2015 Outer Critics Circle.
In 2014, one of Davidson's compositions, Can't Stop That Train, was a Finalist in the Great American Song Contest.
Davidson graduated summa cum laude from Knox with honors in theatre for her development of a historical exhibit for the Bishop Hill Heritage Association's Steeple Building Museum. She participated in numerous theatrical and musical performances at Knox and in the Seattle area.
