Baseball, Men's Golf at Nationals

Knox's historic baseball season came to an end with a 15-7 loss to the College of St. Scholastica at the 2008 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Oshkosh Regional. The Prairie Fire reached the National Tournament for the first time in school history.

At the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships, David Marquardt finished in 14th place. He was named the Knox College Prairie Fire Performer of the Week and a PING Division III Second Team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The original field consisted of 180 golfers before being cut down after the second round. Knox ended its team season in 32nd place after the first round at Braselton, Georgia.

Both teams won their respective Midwest Conference Championships. "This is the first time that I can recall two Knox teams going to national tournaments in the same season," said retired athletic director Harley Knosher, who coached and taught at Knox from 1960 to 2000.

The baseball team won four straight games, including three games in a single day, May 11, to win the 2008 MWC title. It is Knox's first conference baseball championship since 1993. Knox also became the first team to come from the losers bracket and win the Midwest Conference baseball title since the MWC tournament moved to a double-elimination format in 1989.

The Knox men's golf team last qualified as a team for nationals in 1988, when the team placed 18th in the country. The golf team has won more MWC titles than any other school in the conference.
