Earth Month 2016 Activities: 5K, Festival, and More

The Earth Week Festival is one of many activities planned at Knox College to observe Earth Month.

Members of the Knox College community will celebrate Earth Month in April with a variety of events on the Knox campus, including a lecture focused on environmental issues, a 5K run/walk, and a festival.

Biologist Tyrone Hayes, a professor at the University of California-Berkeley, will speak at the EquiKnox Lecture at 7 p.m. on April 20 in Kresge Recital Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts. Hayes will discuss his research on the pesticide atrazine and its effect on male frogs.

A 5K Fun Run and Walk will start at 8 a.m. on April 23. Proceeds from the event will go to Trees4Galesburg, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to plant trees in Galesburg. Discounted registration is available through April 1.

Earth month concludes on the afternoon of the April 23 with an Earth Day Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Gizmo Patio. The event features food, games, music, and other family activities.
