President Barack Obama's speech at Knox College on July 24 garnered media coverage from all over the United States and across the world.
It also attracted the attention of actor and comedian Ed Helms, who delivered the 2013 Commencement Address at Knox. On his Twitter account, Helms joked:
"Nice try @BarackObama! My Knox College speech last month was WAAAY better for America. Decide for yourself: http://ow.ly/nhVxR." The link goes to video of Helms' Commencement Address.
CNN correspondent and anchor Christine Romans also discussed the speech on her Twitter account, quoting President Obama in this post: "'If you think education is expensive wait until you see how much ignorance costs in the 21st century.' #knoxobama"
The Register-Mail newspaper and WGIL radio, both based in Galesburg, generated several stories each. One Register-Mail article featured Knox College faculty member Daniel Beers -- or more accurately, Elliott Beers, the 9 1/2-week-old son of Beers and his wife. After the speech, President Obama shook hands with members of the audience and "just reached out and picked (Elliott) up," Daniel Beers told the newspaper.
The Knox Student, Knox's student newspaper, also published several articles about President Obama's visit.
Here is a collection of some of the additional news coverage of Obama's remarks and his visit to Galesburg.
