Knox Rated Among Most Diverse, Most International

With an enrollment that includes 9% students from outside the United States, Knox College is ranked in the top 25 most international colleges by U.S. News & World Report.

Knox is also ranked in the top 50 for ethnic diversity among the nation's leading liberal arts colleges, according to 2013 rankings from U.S. News. The rankings and details about Knox are published in print and on the U.S. News website.

Overall, Knox is ranked 75th among more than 250 National Liberal Arts Colleges -- schools that emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half their degrees in the arts and sciences. Knox has been consistently ranked in the top third of the prestigious National Liberal Arts classification.

Academic factors included in Knox's ranking include:

• 89% average freshman retention rate
• 69% of classes with fewer than 20 students
• Fewer than 1% of classes with more than 50 students
• 96% of faculty are full-time

"This year's data from U.S. News show that Knox offers a surprisingly diverse campus in the heart of the American Midwest," said Paul Steenis, Knox's dean of admission and vice president for enrollment. "Diversity has been increasingly revealed as an important factor in enhancing students' educational experiences."

According to the American Council on Education and the American Association of University Professors, diversity in education is linked to "a vibrant economy, a rich array of social and political activists committed to civic participation, and the remarkable surge of productivity and creativity in our music, art, and literature... Racial and ethnic diversity in the classroom and on campus is essential to the continuation of these touchstones of a civilized nation."
