The Knox College Choir will feature a student composition at its free, public fall concert at 7:30 p.m., Friday, November 12, in Kresge Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois.
Among the works in the concert is "Requiem Aeternam," by Edward Davis, a junior music major from Chicago

"Ed has a real gift for choral sound," said Knox College professor and choir director Laura Lane. "His composition was written after the death of a family member and is based on the traditional Catholic mass for the dead. It is deeply expressive and absolutely beautiful, and it really resonates with the members of the Choir."
The 50-voice choir also will perform two motets, "Cantate Domino" by Monteverdi, and "O Magnum Mysterium" by Tomas Luis de Victoria; "Alelouya," by the Haitian composer Emile Desamours; "Sure on This Shining Night," by Morten Lauridsen; and "Sugismaastikud" (Autumn Landscapes), by the Estonian composer Veljo Tormis.
"'Sugismaastikud' is the largest work in the program," Lane said. "Each of the six movements is an exquisite, magical word-painting that paints a miniature picture of one aspect of autumn."
The Knox Chamber Singers, directed by visiting instructor and interim choir director Daniel McDavitt, will perform a cappella works by Arvo Part, Javier Busto, Josquin Desprez, by David Wikander and Thomas Morley.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 45 states and 48 countries. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
