
GALESBURG -- Jon Wagner, a professor of anthropology at Knox College, has been elected to the executive board of the Central States Anthropological Society. He joins Knox Professor of Anthropology Nancy Eberhardt who was elected to the board in 2008.
Wagner has taught anthropology at Knox since 1973. He also serves as Director of Knox College's Green Oaks Term, and Field Director of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) Tanzania Program in Human Evolution and Ecology. Wagner's three-year term begins in January.
"It's a great opportunity, and I appreciate the confidence, and encouragement I've received from my colleagues in anthropology," he says.
"Jon's long tenure at Knox, his leadership style and strong reputation among faculty are quality features that will provide excellent leadership for the board," Lawrence B. Breitborde, dean of Knox College, said. "The quality of faculty at Knox can be seen by the Central States Anthropological Society, in looking for another board member, came back to Knox once again," the once president of the CSAS and former member of the executive board added.
The CSAS Executive Board offers graduate and undergraduate paper prizes and sponsors two scholarships for student research, the Leslie A. White Award and the Beth Wilder Dillingham Award.
Founded in 1920 as the Central U.S. Section of the AAA, the CSAS is a professional society that welcomes students and scholars in the heartland and beyond in the promotion of the field of anthropology. CSAS sponsors its own scholarly journal and an annual conference, as well as a CSAS distinguished lecture presented each year at the meeting of the American Anthropological Association.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 47 states and 48 countries. Knox's 'Old Main' is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
