Indira Somani '92 has been awarded a Fulbright-Nehru Research Grant to travel to India to research Western influences on television programming there.
Somani is assistant professor of journalism and mass communication at Washington and Lee University, where she teaches online and broadcast producing.
At Knox, she pursued an independent major in media, race, and gender. As a senior, she produced a documentary about adjustments that Knox College's international students faced when they arrived on campus.
Somani earned a master's degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and a Ph.D. from the Phillip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. She co-produced the award-winning documentary Crossing Lines, a personal essay that explored Somani's struggle to stay connected to Indian culture.
