Knox College students celebrated Flunk Day 2019 by having fun with friends and enjoying a surprise day off from classes.
The rainy weather on April 30 meant that Flunk Day activities—such as riding down a large inflatable slide, eating churros and cotton candy, playing a real-life version of "Whack-a-Mole," and trying to hang onto a "bucking" shark—took place in the T. Fleming Fieldhouse. This year's Flunk Day theme was "Flunkin' Under the Sea."
Other Flunk Day highlights included a visit by an Abraham Lincoln impersonator, a mid-day performance by comedian Troy Walker in the Gizmo, and a nighttime concert by Smallpools in the Fieldhouse.
Flunk Day is a Knox tradition that dates to the 1920s. Student-organized spring festivals on the Knox campus go back to the beginning of the 20th century. Planners of each year's Flunk Day keep its exact date a closely guarded secret, resulting in weeks of rumors and occasional Flunk Day scares as everyone awaits the big day.
