The Knox College Choir and Chamber Singers present a series of concerts in northern Illinois during the choir's Spring 2007 performance tour, March 12-18. The ensembles will perform in Atkinson, Rockford, Wheaton and Chicago, as well as two concerts in Galesburg, on March 4 and March 23. All the concerts are free and open to the public.
The concert features the 53-voice Knox College Choir, conducted by Laura Lane, performing works from Renaissance composers Palestrina and di Lasso, through contemporary selections by American composers Moses Hogan and Eric Whitacre, French composer Maurice Durufle, Australian composer Sarah Hopkins, Latvian composer Juris Karlsons, and Haitian composer Emile Desamours.
The Knox Chamber Singers, an elite 21-voice ensemble selected from among members of the choir, will perform a cappella works by 16th-century composers Des Prez and Monteverdi, and 20th-century composer Morten Lauridsen.
Lane is professor of music, chair of the music department, and director of choral activities at Knox College. She has taught music history, vocal performance and conducting at Knox since 1983. A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, she completed a master's degree at Westminster Choir College and a doctorate at the University of Iowa. Lane is also the founder and director of Nova Singers, a professional vocal ensemble.
Recent spring performance tours have taken the Knox College Choir to Spain, England, Austria, and the Czech Republic. Domestic tours have included concerts in Washington D.C., Memphis, Nashville, New Orleans and New York City. The 2006 tour of the Catalonia region in Spain included a performance in the Paraninfo of the University of Barcelona, and in 2005 Lane directed the choir in a concert in Carnegie Hall.
The Knox College Choir has recorded five CDs, which are available at the Knox College Bookstore, 309 341 7344 or on-line at Bookstore's Music at Knox page
