Returning from a week-long concert tour of Italy, the Knox College Choir presents its Home Tour Concert at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 27 in Kresge Recital Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, on the Knox campus in Galesburg, Illinois.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Directed by Laura Lane, professor of music and director of choral activities at Knox, the 48-member choir will perform the broad repertoire of classical and contemporary choral works, including several in Italian, that were featured at its six concerts between March 18 and 23, in L'Aquila, Pescara, Teramo, Lucca and Pisa, Italy.
The program will showcase water-tuned glass chimes to accompany "Stars" by Latvian composer Eriks Esenvalds; an inspirational work, "O Magnum Mysterium," by African-American composer Kevin Memley; the American folk hymn "Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal"; and the traditional African-American spiritual "Wade in de Water."
The tour received media coverage in Italy, including the newspaper in L'Aquila and the press agency ANSA in Rome.
A member of the Knox College Choir loads his luggage on a charter bus with other choir members to O'Hare Airport, departing campus for the Spring 2015 concert tour of Italy.
