We understand that college is a major transition. To help you cross that bridge from high school to college, we offer two programs for eligible incoming students during the weeks prior to new student orientation. The program will provide you with tools for success as you navigate a new academic environment and face the personal and academic challenges of being a first-year student.
This program is for domestic students who are the first in their families to attend college or are from other traditionally underrepresented groups. It is intended to help students prepare for the rigors of being a full-time college student. The TRIO Bridge Program is limited to those students who apply and are accepted into the TRIO Achievement Program, a TRIO Student Support Services project funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
For new international students whose first language is not English, the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) provides an opportunity to improve English language skills, especially academic writing and speaking, as well as an introduction to campus and community resources.
More information about these three programs will be available on your Pre-Arrival Tracker for those students who qualify. Students interested in the TRIO program should fill out the Transition-to-College Programs Interest Form. International students interested in IELP should fill out the Intensive English Language Program Registration form.
Each of these programs carries a half credit. If you think you are eligible for one of these programs but the link doesn't appear on your portal, please email newstudent@knox.edu.
