The Academy of American Poets solicited and published Professor of English Gina Franco’s poem, “The Same and the Other,” through their Poets.org Poem-a-Day initiative. It was shared with email subscribers and on social media on December 3, 2019. Read the poem, along with Franco’s commentary, and two other works.
Cornelia H. Dudley Professor of Psychology Frank McAndrew recently gave two invited presentations. He gave the talk “Gossip in the Workplace: A Double-Edged Sword?” to the Graduate Program in Business Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He also spoke about teaching careers at liberal arts colleges for the “Preparing Future Faculty” program sponsored by the graduate school at the University of Missouri. He was also recently a guest on FOX News’s The Story with Martha MacCallum, discussing the psychology of mass shooters, along with radio appearances on NPR, Radio Health Journal, and a series of four Halloween-themed interviews (clowns, vampires, zombies, and witches) on The Lisa Show for BYU Radio in Salt Lake City.
Deirdre Dougherty, assistant professor of educational studies, presented the paper “Theorizing Neighborhood: Race, Community, and Neighborhood Schools in Prince George’s County, 1969-1973” at the D.C. History Conference.
Magali Roy-Fequiere, associate professor of Gender and Women’s Studies, was awarded an artist residency at PLAYA in Summer Lake, Oregon, this past July. The competitively selected residency included visual artists, writers, and a scientist all working on creative projects furthering their artistic visions and craft.
