Ways in which you know we're serious about playing.
Our NCAA Division III teams are called the Prairie Fire. Which, let's be honest, is an excellent name. And if you're on a team, it feels good to be surrounded by teammates who are passionate, driven, and committed to excellence. You feel fired up, so to speak.
More than half of our students participate in some kind of organized athletic activity, from club sports (water polo and fencing) to intramurals (teams include faculty and staff!) to fitness classes organized and taught by students (recent examples: Balinese dancing, yoga). There's no athlete/non-athlete divide here. We get fired up about doing good, hard work, period.
We offer great equipment and facilities for everyone. Our 13,000-square-foot E. & L. Andrew Fitness Center features a cardio exercise area, a free weight training area, and a fitness studio. The equipment has names like Cybex Eagle Chest Press, Reflex Scorpion Bench, Hammer Strength Jammers, Cybex Cable Cross-over with Mod-Row and Mod-Lat Pulldowns, and so on. Serious!
We're surrounded by more opportunities to get serious: biking, camping, spelunking, hiking, kayaking, plus the 600-acre Lake Storey Recreational Area, which includes a very serious waterslide.
