Donny Nie's research ponders painting as a virtual identity, a persona with encoded privacy and portals of disclosure. Her abstraction process merged liminal spaces, responding to her migration across landscapes and environments. Fresh Frame(s) presents a recent body of abstract paintings Nie made in Galesburg since her move here last fall.

Donny Nie is a Chinese-Canadian artist and an Assistant Professor of Art at Knox College. She received a BFA from OCAD University and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on painting as her matrix, then expands into glass, ceramics, printmaking, and digital projections. Nie has had solo exhibitions in Canada, the United States, China, and Japan.
