Welcome to Red Room Online!!!

During Red Room Online hours, you can use Slack to connect with tutors and either GoBoard or Google Meet to conduct tutorials. Please note that both GoBoard and Google Meet work best with Google Chrome.

• To meet with a tutor, use this link to join the Knox College Red Room workspace. You will want to use your knox.edu email to sign up on Slack.
• If you are not sure if your internet connection is fast enough to support video chat, use this link to test your speeds. We suggest that you have a connection of at least 5Mbps. However, if your speed will not allow for the use of GoBoard, please let your tutor know and you can use voice and/or text chat options of your choice.
• If you are having trouble signing into Slack or accessing the online tutoring platforms, please do NOT contact the Help Desk. Please email redroom@knox.edu and we will walk you through the process

You can follow these directions to connect and work with a Red Room tutor:

1. Once you’ve signed into Slack, please fill out the form in the channel “#1_onlinetutoringagreement.”
2. Once the form is completed, search for the subject channel you need. This involves
   1. clicking the + symbol to the right of “Channels” on the left-hand menu,
   2. selecting “Browse Channels” and clicking on the subject you want, and
   3. on the right-hand bar, clicking “Join.”
3. Upon joining the appropriate channel, send a message stating what class you are in, who the professor is, and what you need help with. A tutor will respond to you as soon as possible.
4. The tutor will respond with either a GoBoard or Google Meet link. Follow the prompts and provide the necessary information.
5. Enable your microphone and webcam when you are prompted to do so.
6. Next, speak to your tutor! Make sure you have any necessary materials ready before starting the tutorial to maximize your time. Both online chat programs have the ability to share documents, so your tutor will be able to see what you are working on.

When you are done with your session, please fill out the tutor evaluation form which we will email to you. It is completely confidential and will help us improve our services to you and the larger Knox Community.
