Pre-Professional & Cooperative Program
1. We're a pre-health program. We're not a major or a minor; we're faculty and staff, courses and resources, all dedicated to helping you - current students or Knox alumni - move toward working in the constantly changing field of health.
2. We encourage you to follow your passion. You can choose any major. Many of our students happen to major in the sciences, but it's common to see a double major or minor in the arts, humanities, or social sciences. Or start exploring the biological, cultural, and psychological determinants of human health with our unique interdisciplinary health studies minor.
3. We're about hands-on experience. Every student has the opportunity to do creative and research work and have a $2,000 Power of Experience grant available. And we'll help you find internships and job shadowing opportunities with hospitals and physicians.
4. We're here for you. Our pre-health program advisors and professors help you develop an educational plan that works with pre-health program requirements, prepare for standardized exams like MCAT, and consider your future.
5. We get the job done. Through a partnership with George Washington University, select Knox students are guaranteed early admission to the university's School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Our alumni go on to be neurosurgeons, public health administrators, research leaders—people who change lives and contribute to the common good.
Knox offers a cooperative program with Rush University College of Nursing. You'll receive a bachelor's degree from Knox and a master's degree from Rush, which is the equivalent of Clinical Nursing Leader (CNL) training found at other institutions. Upon completion of your bachelor's degree, you'll have a guaranteed slot in the Graduate Entry Master's program at Rush.
Our affiliation agreement with Washington University in St. Louis, whose occupational therapy program is among the top-ranked in the nation, means that you'll receive preference in their admission process. The 3-2 program includes three years at Knox and two years at Washington University, earning both a bachelor's degree and a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) degree.
The Knox-Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) combined degree program allows you to work toward your Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree at ICO after three years at Knox. Your first year in the optometry program will count as your final year at Knox. Applicants are selected by ICO in their third year after successfully completing curriculum requirements.
