Students display their countries flags at the annual International Fair in Ford Center for the Fine Arts.

There are ample opportunities to enhance your studies in international studies through independent research, off-campus study, and internships. These programs are integral to a Knox education, teaching you how to apply your skills in real world situations.

Research and Creative Work

Many of our majors -- and minors -- pursue College Honors or other research and creative projects. Some even present or perform their work at national and international conferences. Here are a few recent projects:

  • "Third Culture Kids: Study of a Concept," Kyle Cruz '13, integrated international studies major.
  • "Global Analysis of Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis Rates and Related Country Variables," Stephanie Lashway '12, integrated international studies and biology major.
  • "Millennium Development Goal Three: Kuwaiti and Qatari Women's Prospects for Empowerment," Emma Swanson '12, integrated international studies major.
  • "China and the Middle East: Energy, Politics, and Culture," Orit Buzali '11, integrated international studies major.
  • "The Impact of Tea on the Angami-Naga Society of Northeast India," Miniona Lungalang '11, integrated international studies major.
  • "The Mexican Maquiladora Program: A Contemporary Socio-Economic Analysis," William F. Schaefer '11, integrated international studies major
  • "Presentation of History in Secondary School Textbooks in Japan and France: A Comparative Study," Yuko Sorano '06.

Off-Campus Study

Our students take advantage of the more than two dozen off-campus study programs. Here are a few of the places students have studied in the past five years:

  • China Studies Institute
  • ACM London/Florence
  • DIS, Denmark
  • Japan Study
  • Russia: Krasnodar Semester

QuickStart Language Sequence

Knox's QuickStart Language program emphasizes active conversation. Courses create a real-world environment and use specialized, fast-paced language drills to reinforce new skills. Vocabulary lessons are geared toward the needs of new professionals facing foreign peers. After just ten weeks in class the courses culminate in a two-week trip to Europe or South America.

Internships

here's no better way to explore the possibilities of life after Knox than internships. Here are a few of our students' recent internships (found with the assistance  from the Bastian Family Career Center):

  • Intern, Cambodian League for Defense of Human Rights, and University of Haifa International School. Kyle Cruz '13, integrated international relations major.
  • International Software Translator for the Spanish/American Institute, Barcelona, Spain. Anne Neuville '02, international studies and Spanish major.
