How We Work

  1. We offer the ideal convergence of liberal arts values with practical experience. Arts administration has room for advancement, is portable across multiple areas of application throughout the arts and in a variety of settings and communities, and is transferable to other arenas of business and entrepreneurship.
  2. We give the arts maker a business platform needed for success. Coupled with one of our programs in art, dance, creative writing, music, or theatre, a minor in arts administration provides a pathway that allows a person who's passionate about their work to contribute effectively as an artist.
  3. We prepare you for a career with an arts organization. Arts administrators are at the center of arts presenting organizations, assuring the fiscal health, visibility, and vision of the organization, from small non-profits to multi-million-dollar budget institutions.
  4. We give you experience before you graduate. Take an independent study or fellowship, or complete an internship off campus or at Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre, The Galesburg Civic Art Center, Knox-Galesburg Symphony, or among other local arts institutions.
  5. Our grads find success. John Harden '21 is the Director of Ticketing and Sales at Lookingglass Theatre in Chicago. Katie Bell '08 is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and named one of the "8 Great Brooklyn Artists Under 30." Joseph Mohan '03 is the associate director of production at the Art Institute of Chicago. Ted Delong '00 completed an MFA in arts management at Yale University and is the general manager at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
