The Dorothy Johnson ‘39 and Richard Burkhardt ‘39 Language Center provides computer and audio-visual support to faculty and students in the Department of Modern Languages & Literatures. Located on the first floor of George Davis Hall, the Burkhardt Language Center offers individual computer workstations, multi-purpose small group rooms with video editing stations, and a group viewing room for class video assignments. You may reserve any of the Center's facilities on Google calendars at my.knox.edu.

Hours of Operation

Sunday - Thursday: 8:00 a.m. - midnight.
Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Saturday: 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Facilities & Equipment

  • Mac lab with 24 individual workstations and 1 instructor's station with scanner. Reserve the space online.
  • 2 small group work rooms (seat 5) with Mac video viewing and editing, group projects and testing.
  • 1 large group video view room (seats 14) equipped with multi-standard VCR and region-free DVD player.
  • 1 common area with lounge seating for study or conversation practice with departmental assistants.
  • 2 PCs for drop-in work or quick printing before class.
  • Digital cameras and tripods
  • Rosetta Stone* for the following languages: Arabic, Greek, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Thai

*Rosetta Stone licenses are restricted to the group work rooms.
