2025 Campus Race to Zero Waste: February 2nd-March 29th

The Campus Race to Zero Waste is a national friendly competition and benchmarking tool for colleges and universities to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities.

Over an 8-week period, Knox tracks the weights of how much we send to the landfill, how much we compost, how much food we recover and donate, and how much we recycle. With the goal of our diversion and recycling rates increasing throughout the competition!

Check out the recent diversion rates below to see how we are doing (a PDF version is available as well). We met our goal of over 40% diversion of materials from the landfill during the 8-week campaign in 2025 and have set a goal to get better every year! Please contact sustainability@knox.edu to get involved!
