Knox College’s annual New Student Orientation is a fun and exciting time for new students to learn about all that Knox has to offer, and it gives current students a chance to share what they have learned in their time here so far. The Consent and Communication Workshops, led by the Dare to Care Peer Educators, are in place to provide incoming students with a better understanding of consent, sexual assault and misconduct, Knox’s response against this type of harassment, Title IX, and being an active bystander. The specific goals of this program are to equip all Knox students with:
- An equal baseline understanding of consent and how to practice it;
- Knowledge of the importance of consent--and why it matters;
- An understanding of the ways in which consent can be expressed;
- The tools to put these ideas into practice (what consent is, how to give consent, etc.);
- Awareness and familiarity with the Dare to Care Peer Educators and other campus resources;
- Information about how Knox will respond to concerns about sexual harassment and gender-based violence, including about College resources and reporting options (supportive measures, rights and options, etc.), for both themselves and others;
- The importance of their role in the context of community responsibility to prevent sexual violence;
- The opportunity to have open conversation(s) about sexuality.
