The Midwest Conference announced its 2011-2012 Academic All-Conference recipients for the fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons. The Prairie Fire had 147 student-athletes in 20 sports named as academic all-conference. Football led the way with 18 of its team members on the list. The league's 10 schools named a total of 1,293 academic all-conference performers. Read more about the outstanding accomplishments of the Knox student-athletes.

Coach's Corner

Greetings K Club Members,

Harold WatsonLet me start by thanking you for your continued support of Knox athletics. Your contributions help us achieve our mission of providing another life changing dimension to student-athletes' Knox experience.

I write to you as we close out what has been an exciting 2011-2012 athletic and academic year for the Prairie Fire. Highlights include All-Conference selections, notable performances in contests and conference meets, and a coach of the year award.

Looking ahead, I am excited about our two new full-time head coaches (Matt Edwards, men's soccer, and Shayla Chalker, volleyball). In the coming weeks, we will be adding a third full-time coach to lead the men's and women's tennis programs. This is the first time that all three will have full-time head coaches running the programs. This is a great step forward for each of the programs, as well as for Knox athletics.

As we continue to make improvements, I encourage you to check the Web site for more news about our 21 programs. More success is just around the corner!

Go Prairie Fire!

Yours truly,

Harold M. Watson
Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing & External Relations

What’s your favorite place to eat in Galesburg? Buffalo Wild Wings.

What are your career goals? Becoming a football coach at the collegiate level or a high school teacher.

What three people in history you would like to have a meal with and why? John Wayne, Johnny Cash, and John F. Kennedy. All three were very powerful men, and I feel having all three of those guys together would be very interesting.

What are your favorite sports teams? The Fighting Illini, Bears, Bulls, St. Louis Cardinals.Canton High School

What’s your Favorite city to visit? Canton, Illinois. I am a hometown kid.

What’s your most memorable Knox moment? It makes me proud on or off the field when we have a great performance and earn a ‘W.’

What’s your favorite thing about Knox? The people are the best part of Knox. Everyone comes from different backgrounds. It is pretty awesome learning about the way everyone is different, but we have one thing in common -- Knox.

What things do you like to do in your free time? I enjoy playing video games, listening to music, and discussing sports with my friends.

What event in history do you wish you could have been a part of? I wish I were alive for the Bears Super Bowl victory. Who knows when another Chicago team will win a championship?

What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you? I am a HUGE "Momma’s Boy."

What is on your bucket list? I want to see a Daytona 500 and a Super Bowl. I think visiting all 50 states would be pretty cool, too.

What's your pregame ritual or superstition? I get to the locker room before everyone else and get dressed. I then put on my eye black and my gloves. I might eat an apple or banana, depending on the weather conditions. After doing all that, I sit by my locker and listen to music until it is time to head to the field. Red Hot Chilli Peppers

What's in your iPod? I am very proud of my iPod. I have a lot of different music. My iPod is dominated by the Red Hot Chili Peppers! I will say that once I get past them, it is pretty well balanced. I have a lot of Taylor Swift, Modest Mouse, and Eminem.
