Sticky notes of student sayings on flunk day.

Islamic Club is a group open to all students who have an interest in the religion of Islam regardless of whether the student is Muslim or not. The group aims to enrich the understanding of the religion and the diversity of its followers, addressing the negative and positive views of religion particularly in the case of Islam.

Islamic Club also provides services to Muslim students and works with the small Muslim community in Galesburg. Islamic Club is a group in which all facets of Islam can be explored and discussed with openness and honesty, free from any fear, bigotry and rudeness.

Past events

  • Mocha with Muslims is an event held at least once every term. It is a forum where Islamic Club invites fellow students or anyone in general to come and get to know the Muslim community at Knox. It aims to trigger interfaith dialogue, breaks down barriers of stereotypes and enhances conversation in general. It has been proven very successful not just with Knox, but also within the Galesburg community.
  • Knox College celebrates World Hijab Day every year where it invites Knox students to learn more about the Hijab as a way of life. Female identifying students then join the world in wearing the Hijab. This event strengthens the bond between students regardless of color, creed or racial background. Students get to keep the Hijab as a souvenir for their participation.
  • Eid Dinners. Every year Islamic Club hosts two Eid dinners, one for Eid Al-Fitr and one for Eid Al-Adha. Eid Al-Fitr celebrates the end of Ramadhan. Eid Al-Adha celebrates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to follow God's wish.
  • Faith Mixer. Islamic Club held its first Annual Faith Mixer in spring 2011. The mixers allow people of all faiths or non-faiths on campus to discuss religion. This year's theme was "What Faith Means to Me" a look at the personal aspect of religion and how it affects those who choose it or don't. We invite all other religious groups to attend as part of our mission statement to promote interfaith conversation and cooperation.
