Common Ground

Common Ground is an LGBTQ+ activism club on campus. Our main goal is to create a safe environment for students to express their identity freely and to make positive change through open dialogue between students, faculty and the administration. We practice intersectionality, and celebrate all romantic, sexual, and gender identities.

Annual Events:

• Bi-ce Cream Social to celebrate Bisexuality Awareness Day
• Tie-dying event for National Coming Out Day
• Asexuali-tea to celebrate Asexuality Awareness Week
• Mock Weddings to honor the fight for marriage equality
• Drag Show
• Trans Visibility Week celebrations
• Day of Silence & Night of Noise
• Our club pays to send students to the Midwest Bisexual Lesbian Gay Transgender Asexual College Conference every year

Past & Current Projects:

• Providing free binders to all students in need
• Coordinated with counseling services to create a support group for transgender and non-binary students
• Secured and actively protect the existence of gender neutral bathrooms in academic buildings
• Raising awareness of how to replace your dead-name on your campus email
  • We are currently working with administration to remove the use of dead-names on as many documents as possible
• Providing education to other members of the Knox community and providing a voice for the LGBTQ+ community

Common Ground meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Human Rights Center. We invite people of all romantic, sexual, and gender identities to join us to discuss weekly topics.
