Commencement 2010

It's not far away! If your student is graduating this year, congratulations! The Knox Commencement page will help in planning for your student's special day. Parents should have received information in the mail and tickets will be distributed to your student the week prior to Commencement.

Please let us know if you need special assistance for any visitors you may bring with you to the ceremony. Contact Vicki Sibley, commencement coordinator, if you have questions.

We have arranged for wireless event access for parents and guests who might need a wireless connection to the Internet during Commencement. To find out how to access the event, contact Jennifer Gallas.

Senior Challenge 2010

Senior ChallengeThe Senior Challenge is Knox's Senior Class gift program. The "challenge" comes from the chair of the Knox Fund Steering Committee, who challenges the Senior Class to make a gift to the College. If at least 90% of the Senior Class members meet that challenge, the chair will match the total class gift with up to $2,500. Past classes have raised more than $10,000 for various Knox programs.

Your student will be asked by their peers to make a gift to Knox. We encourage students to discuss gift options with their parents, especially if they choose to use a portion of their enrollment deposit to pay part of the gift. Learn more about the enrollment deposit. Students may also give to the class gift using cash, check, or charge.

Students are not obligated to make a gift, but it is a great way to recognize those who have been helpful in their education at Knox. They are encouraged to honor professors, parents, family members, or friends with their gifts.

Feel free to track the class's progress! The results will be celebrated at the Senior Toast on Friday, June 4.

End of Year Reminders

Students move their belongingsAre you preparing to lug all of your student's "stuff" home for the summer?

Be aware that limited storage is available in most residence hall basements. Students should contact the Campus Life Office for the proper storage location. All items should be labeled clearly with the student's name and contact information.

The Galesburg Fire Department prohibits the storage of furniture and carpet. This applies to self-made furniture and furniture that can be disassembled. If left on campus, these items will be discarded.

Please note that the College cannot assume responsibility for items stored on campus. Personal property may not be stored or left in a student room over the summer or once a student has vacated the space for any reason.

If you are interested in securing a mini-storage locker for your students' items, there are facilities close to the College in Galesburg. Check out yellowpages.com and type "storage" and "Galesburg, IL" into the search boxes. The College cannot assume responsibility for items stored in any of these places.

Please contact the Campus Life Office at 309-341-7527 if you have questions.

into the Community

Most people talk about "going to the theatre," but a Knox College student wants to bring theatre to the people this spring -- with the construction of a trailer-mounted portable stage. Samantha Newport, a senior theatre major, has spent the academic year building the wagon. In May she will take it across campus and possibly into Galesburg for productions of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) -- which compresses all of Shakespeare's plays into one comedy. Read more about the construction of the wagon.
