Fall Interview Day for Knox Students

The Center for Career & Pre-Professional Development, along with the Illinois Small College Placement Association, is hosting Fall Interview Day for Knox Students on Friday, October 15, 2010, from 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Ashton Place in Willowbrook, Illinois. This unique, one-day event offers interview opportunities with multiple companies in one convenient location. Some of the companies that have attended in the past include Deloitte, KPMG, Clifton Gunderson, Kellogg, John Deere, Caterpillar, Hewitt Associates, Porte Brown, State Farm, Virchow Krause, Zurich, CNA, Calamos Investments, Cygan Hayes, and Kraft Foods.

Students will be able to view the available positions (internships and full-time jobs) that these specific companies are seeking to fill under the "Upcoming Events & Deadlines" section on the main page of the ISCPA Online Career Center. Students should read through the description(s), and if they meet the listed criteria/qualifications, they can submit their resume for the appropriate opportunity through the automated system.

Employers will review resumes following the application deadline. If selected, the student will be contacted and instructed, through e-mail, on the protocol for selecting an interview slot.

To apply, students should upload his or her resume on the ISCPA Web site at least a week before the September 20 deadline -- this will allow time for the resume to be reviewed and approved. Students are required to have an uploaded/approved resume to apply for Fall Interview Day positions. Students must submit a resume for each position they have an interest in to be considered for an interview. Resumes must be received between the dates of September 7 and 20. Students should stop by or call the career center for more information.

Knox Student Helps With River Cleanup, Restoration

Ben BoorKnox College student Ben Boor has spent much of his summer trudging through the muck of a Maryland river, dragging out old tires, trash, and the occasional bowling ball.

He is part of a group of people devoted to restoring the health of the Back River, a once-thriving waterway that became seriously polluted over several decades. The goal is to make the river more hospitable for plants and wildlife.

"Honestly, it was kind of scary at first to realize how bad it was," said Boor, a native of Bel Air, Maryland, who will be a senior at Knox in the fall. "Even three or four years ago, nothing was able to live on the mudflats because there was too much trash." Read more about Boor.
